Why Retirement Planning Matters
Retirement doesn't just happen. It's something you plan for. Many people underestimate how much they'll need, or overlook how taxes, inflation, and market shifts can affect their income. A retirement plan gives you clarity on the big questions: will your income last, how taxes will affect your savings, when to claim Social Security, and how to protect against market and health care risk.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
1. How early should I start retirement planning?
The earlier, the better, but it's never too late. Starting ten or fifteen years out gives you the most flexibility. Starting closer to retirement, or even after you've retired, still gives us the option to optimize your retirement plan.
-
2. When should I start Social Security?
It depends on your health, your spouse's situation, your other income, and your tax picture. There's no universal right answer, but there is a right answer for you, and that's something we work through together.
-
3. How does Idaho tax retirement income?
Idaho doesn't tax Social Security, and income tax rates are modest. But Idaho does tax pension income, 401(k) distributions, and IRA withdrawals. A smart withdrawal strategy makes a difference in what you keep.
-
4. I'm already retired. Is it too late to build a plan?
Not at all. Withdrawal sequencing, required minimum distributions, and health care costs are all active decisions. Many of our clients came to us after retiring and made changes that added up over time.
-
5. What's the difference between retirement planning and investment management?
Retirement planning is the full picture: income, taxes, Social Security, health care, and legacy. Investment Management is how your portfolio itself is built and adjusted, one piece of that bigger plan.
